Age Related Macular Degeneration (ARMD) is a major cause of visual impairment in elderly patients. Two forms of ARMD are found, namely ‘dry’ and ‘wet’ macular degeneration and both forms result in the loss of a person’s central vision due to damage that occurs in the macula (central retina).

Macular degeneration can make it difficult or impossible to read or recognize faces, although enough peripheral vision remains to allow other activities of daily life.

Although it is not possible with today’s medical technology to restore the central vision of a person with macular degeneration there are many optical and electronic devices available to aid such a person visually with day to day activities. One such a device available from us is the Maggie Electronic Magnifier.
