Eye pathology is a study or understanding of the changes that disease cause to the structure and function of the eye.  Pathology is a complex science and modern medicine is always seeking for better understanding and treatment of the different diseases that cause loss of function in the human eye.  

To try and simplify the many different diseases that can afflict the eye we have categorised the most common eye pathology the practice sees into 3 regions where the disease normally originates, namely the anterior (front) chamber, posterior (back) chamber and systemic related diseases.

Anterior chamber diseases

  • Corneal dystrophies
    • Keratoconus
    • Pellucid marginal degeneration
    • Fuchs’ endothelial dystrophy
  • Recurrent corneal erosion syndrome
  • Corneal and conjunctival Infections
    •     Bacterial
    •     Viral
    •     Allergic
  • Cataracts
  • Pterygiums
  • Uveitis

Posterior chamber diseases

  • Retinal detachment
  • Glaucoma
  • Macular degeneration

Systemic diseases

  • Diabetes
  • Hypertension
  • Dry eye
